BBC
RECORDS
Independent
label: BBC Records or The British Broadcasting Corporation first introduced its
own record label in 1967. It has gone by various names through the
years.
1967-70 BBC Radio Enterprises 1970-74 BBC Records 1974-89 BBC
Records And Tapes 1990s- BBC Worldwide. With a remit to release singles and
albums connected to TV and radio programmes (plus a few royal souvenirs and
other oddities), its output has been extremely varied and takes in a large
amount of spoken-word material as well as music in a wide range of styles. Of
most interest to electronics fans are the numerous releases from the
Corporation's own BBC Radiophonic Workshop and some of the more experimental
theme music singles which appeared during the 70s and 80s.
