CHERRY RED / PASSION
RECORDS
Independent label: Cherry Red began life in 1971 as
Cherry Red Promotions, when Richard Jones, Will Atkinson and Iain McNay began
organizing gigs in their home town of Malvern. With the advent of
Punk, which they loved, they decided to start their own record label; McNay left
his job to work full-time on the new venture. The label's first release, by
local Punk band The Tights ('Bad Hearts'; CHERRY-1) was in
1978. Unlike most other independents from those days Cherry Red
flourished, thanks in part to an adventurous release schedule - they went to the
trouble of tracking down and releasing promising material from the USA, such as
albums from the Runaways and the Dead Kennedys. The company pressed on
through the '80s, ploughing its own unique furrow; in the '90s, however, it
changed direction and started concentrating on reissues. It has built up an
extensive catalogue of rare Punk / New Wave / Independent product, and has
ventured into other areas of music such as Glam
Pop. Thanks to Robert Lyons For The Info.
Cherry Red / Passion Records managed one singles. 40 Song selections on one
single! Limited edition of 500. It issued singles in PASS-0 numerical
