DENE
RECORDS
Independent label: Dene was the record label of
Anston Ltd, which had evolved out of a Manchester-based company called AK
Associates. Dene managed at least one singles. It issued singles in DK-0000
numerical series. AK had also had a label, 'AK'; it dealt mainly in LPs, which
it numbered using the year as the first two digits - the first release, from
1973, was 7301. It looks as though Dene kept up that practise. AK put out just
the one single, George C. Smith's 'One Day At A Time' (AK-7708). '83' refers to
the year in which the record was made - one or two custom recording firms did
that sort of thing. This could be the eighteenth record made in that year, or
even the eighteenth altogether - if the previous one was made in 1982 it would
be numbered 8217. Gorse Park Secondary School became Stretford High School in
1990. Distributed By Dene.
