Don Christie Records was a DIY
label of Don Christie's Record shop, based in Birmingham from mid 70s / late
90s. Moved to 10-12 Gloucester St Birmingham in 1983. Starting off in Balsall
Heath on the Ladypool Road before moving to the Bull Ring markets in the city
centre. This was one of the main places to buy reggae, soul, funk, Drum n Bass
and Jungle. Don Chtistie real name David McGynn owner eventually sold up moved
to USA to sell coffee machines to the Yanks. Unfortunately Dave died he had an
unknown heart defect from birth. It managed one single. It issued singles in
DCR7-0 numerical series. Distributed By Don Christie Records. Pato better known
as Pato Banton. Pato Banton (born Patrick Murray; 5 October 1961) is a reggae
singer and toaster from Birmingham, England. He received the nickname "Pato
Banton" from his stepfather; The first name derives from a Jamaican night owl
that stays up all night calling "patoo, patoo" and the last name from the disc
jockey slang word "Banton" which means heavyweight lyricist or storyteller. In
1994, he achieved a number 1 on the UK Singles Chart with a cover of The Equals'
Baby Come Back featuring Robin and Ali Campbell of UB40.
