FABULOUS
RECORDS
Independent label: Fabulous Records managed at
least three singles. It issued singles in FABS-100 numerical series. Fabulous
seems to have released around nine or ten singles, two of them in the
'70s. Initially numbering was in a JC-0 series, which reached JC-6; in or
around 1980 this changed to the FABS-100s, which got at least as far as
FABS-103. The first and third of the singles, Young & Moody's, 'The Devil
Went Down To Georgia' and 'All The Good Friends' had a Status Quo connection, in
that Bob Young played with the Quo, roadied for them, and co-wrote several of
their hits; 'All The Good Friends' was produced by Francis Rossi. Three
more were by Phil Cordell, under his alias of 'Springwater', FABS-103 being a
reissue of his 'I Will Return' hit. JC-4, 'Can't See', was by Punk band
The Drones. Two different label designs were used: an initial plain white
one used for the first two releases was replaced by one with a bit more interest
to it when the third came out. The company had at least two distributors
during its lifetime: JC-2 was handled by Pinnacle, and JC-3 to 6 by Pye.
The FABS-100s were distributed by Pye / PRT.
