FLY
RECORDS

Independent label: Fly Records was established in October 1970 by independent music publisher David Platz and based at his ESSEX MUSIC offices at Dumbarton House, 68 Oxford Street, London W1. In 1980 was The first of several attempts to revive a classic 70s label. Still, at least the original Fly 'ring logo' was back temporarily and in a different colours for each release. In 1988 David Platz’s own company BUCKS MUSIC managed the FLY / CUBE / ELECTRIC catalogue (excepting T Rex and Joe Cocker recordings). An association with Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards, a British ski jumper who had set a British record, led to the revival of the FLY label to release a novelty record aimed at exploiting Eddie’s sudden celebrity status. A significant part of Bucks Music’s business was publishing composers of music made for TV & film, both themes and scores. FLY became an outlet for these composers’ TV recordings and spin-off projects, with the occasional flirtation with recording artists. Distributed By Pinnacle and Total Records.
