HEAVY LEATHER
RECORDS
Heavy Leather Records was a DIY label.
It managed one single. An Ellie Jay Recording EJSP 8624 & A Lyntone
Pressings LYN 5948 / 5949. It issued singles in an HLR-600 numerical
series. Heavy Leather Records was from the Cambridge area. Heavy Leather may well have
been run by Sean T. Wright; he played and sang on all three records that it put
out and he co-produced them as well, so at the very least it's a good bet that
he was deeply involved with the label. Two of those records came out in
1979. Iron Forge's EP featuring 'Under Attack', 'Beast In The Cage',
Angels Fighting Demons' and 'Iron Forge - Cradle To The Grave'. Its catalogue
number was 999, and its label design was fairly plain - black printing on white,
with the label name at the top, the artists' name at the bottom and the other
information enclosed in boxes. The other 1979 release was an eponymous
album by Hollywood Wires, which was numbered HLR-111. The final Heavy
Leather record is said to have been an odd one. Reportedly it consisted of
leftover stocks of Sean Wright's self-financed single 'Strange Situation' b/w
'Silent Dreams' which came out in 1978 on Ellie Jay as EJSP-8624 - apparently
they had Heavy Leather labels pasted over the originals, and the tracks were
credited to International Heroes. Its new catalogue number was HLR-666,
and it came out in 1982. All three Heavy Leathers are very rare and
are highly collectable.
