PACER
RECORDS
Independent label: Pacer Records formed by
Gerry Marsden. It managed two singles. It issued
singles in PACE-100 numerical series. Gerry and the Pacemakers were a
British beat group prominent during the 1960s. Like The Beatles, they came from
Liverpool and were managed by Brian Epstein. The group was comprised of Gerry
Marsden, Freddie Marsden, Les Chadwick, and Arthur McMahon (aka Arthur Mack),
who was replaced on piano by Les Maguire in 1961. They are the second most
successful group from Liverpool to hit the U.S. pop charts behind the Beatles.
In the early sixties, Gerry and the Pacemakers worked the same
Liverpool/Hamburg circuit as the Beatles and many other groups before being
signed in 1962 by manager Brian Epstein, as his second group after the Beatles.
