 Race Records was an Independent Coventry label. Formed in Coventry by John Bradbury. Ex-drummer for The Specials launched this short-lived Label. It managed four singles. It issued singles in RB-000 numerical series. Distributed By Spartan Records. John Bradbury was Born 1953, died December 28th 2015. He was the Drummer of the bands The Specials / The Special AKA, also played with General Public and the later reformed The Selecter among others. Run briefly an own Label in the early '80s; Race Records. Team 23 was Born out of two of the Coventry most influential bands, The End and the X-Certs, Team 23 a Ska - soul band from Coventry, Comprised of Jerome Heisler (vocals), Dave Pepper (guitar, replaced by Jim Lantsbury), Gray Summers (bass), Adrian Vaughn (keyboards), John Stonki Hewitt (drums), Dave (sax), Roy Wall (sax). Nightdoctor was a reggae band that used to back Little Roy (& others) on tour. George Young (Drums), Roger Haires (Bass), Charley Wood (Guitar), Ivan Lampkin (Guitar, vocals), Freddie Cruickshank (Guitar, Vocals), Vin Gordon (Trombone) , Annie Whitehead (Trombone), Richard Maun (Alto sax), Alan Deval (Tenor sax), Robbie Coombes (Vocals), Lynford Joshua (Percussion), Terry Allen (Percussion), Noel Job (Percussion). The People were Bass – Charlie Anderson, Drums – John Hobley, Guitar – Chris Christie, Keyboards – Desmond Brown. Charlie, Desmond and Chris were together in 1977, when they were part of Coventry reggae band Hard Top 22. The Lemons was a London, pop band active 1980-1981. The Lemons were regularly headlining at Dingwalls, The Marquee and many other well-known London venues. Put together by guitarist/songwriter Ian Roberts who worked at The Hope & Anchor in Islington. Band Members were Tammi Jacobs – Vocals/Trumpet, Ian Roberts – Guitar, Darryl Hunt – Bass, David Quinn – Saxophone, Paz Parris – Piano, Paul Hookham – Drums. When an intended long-term deal with Magnet Records fell through at the very last minute, Brad and Rick Rogers from The Specials came to the rescue and “My Favourite Band” was released during the summer of 1981 on Race Records.
