"The Shankill Musician's Collective consisting initially of the West Belfast Dove Band and the Stoney Broke Band was set up in the earlier part of 1989 and consists of people from across the religious divide. As a result of issuing invitations to like-minded groups many others have now joined the 'collective'. They are mostly professional musicians and singers based on the Shankill Road who, for one reason or another, are no longer travelling on the cross-channel circuit. Conscious of the need for musical and cultural stimulation in the working class districts of Belfast, especially the Shankill Road, they formed the Shankill Musician's Collective with a view to promoting and co-operating in community bridge-building through the international language of music."
