POGUE MAHONE
RECORDS
Independent label: Pogue Mahone
Records was a self-named label by the Pogues. PM 1 was the first single released
by The Pogues and the only release by them while their name was Pogue Mahone.
Reissued as Stiff BUY 207 under their altered name The Pogues: the name change
as Pogue Mahone is Gaelic for 'kiss my arse'. The Pogues are a Celtic punk band
from London, formed in 1982 and fronted by Shane MacGowan. The band reached
international prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. MacGowan left the band in
1991 due to drinking problems but the band continued first with Joe Strummer and
then with Spider Stacy on vocals before breaking up in 1996. Kirsty Anna MacColl
(10 October 1959 – 18 December 2000) was an English singer-songwriter. She
scored several pop hits from the early 1980s to the early 1990s. During this
era, she often sang on recordings produced by her then husband Steve Lillywhite,
notably those of The Smiths and the song "Fairytale of New York" by The Pogues.
She was killed in a boating accident in Mexico in 2000, under controversial
circumstances. Distributed By Stiff and WEA R
ecords .
